Euro yields dip under Lagarde’s watchful eye
ECB president Christine Lagarde said the ECB is “closely monitoring the evolution of longer-term nominal bond yields” in her speech at the opening plenary session of the European semester. The rise in eurozone government bond yields subsided during her speech.
European government bond yields have risen sharply over the past few weeks, dragged upwards by a dollar market gripped by reflation hysteria. They took a dip on Tuesday, however, when Lagarde addressed the European Parliament, promising to closely monitor the yields.
